Chronicle of the Week: Clos de Vougeot, a jewel of Cistercian heritage
Since 2008, Charles Van Canneyt, grandson of Alain Hudelot, has been at the helm of the renowned Hudelot-Noëllat domaine in Chambolle-Musigny.
Undoubtedly the best-known of all Burgundy clos, Clos de Vougeot is a jewel of Cistercian heritage, an exceptional vineyard.
The estate owns 0.69 hectares of it on two parcels adjacent to the Château, perfectly situated in the upper part of the clos. The larger is in “Les Chioure” and the second, slightly smaller, straddles “Plants Homor” and “Garenne”.
Vinified with 20% whole grapes, these old Pinot Noir vines, on average 60 years old, are aged for 16 months in 50% new oak barrels.
It’s all there: unprecedented finesse, mad complexity and extraordinary depth!
