Chronicle of the Week: “Guigal, Ampuis as Capital”
Château d’Ampuis, a former 12th-century fortified house that was embellished as a château d’agrément during the Renaissance, is now the headquarters of Maison Guigal.
Marcel Guigal and his son, Philippe, manage the estate, which needs no introduction. Between them, they have developed a real style, marked by long ageing.
Made from 7 exceptional steep terroirs on the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis is 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, aged for a minimum of 3 years.
Always very close to the famous “LaLaLa” trilogy: La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne, the nose is intense with aromas of black fruits and spices. Concentrated and racy, the palate is a perfect blend of power and elegance.
“The strength and hallmark of Maison Guigal wines is time!” Philippe Guigal
