Chronicle of the Week: The one and only

Officially, there are two white Grand Cru appellations on the hillside of Corton: Corton-Charlemagne and Charlemagne.
AOC Charlemagne Grand Cru must be produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes harvested on two neighboring climats: “Le Charlemagne” in the commune of Aloxe-Corton and “En Charlemagne” in the commune of Pernand-Vergelesses.
As its specifications are identical to those of the Corton-Charlemagne appellation, this is an appellation that is hardly claimed any more.
Congratulations to Domaine de la Vougeraie for their exquisite interpretation of this little-known appellation. As far as we know, the one and only domaine still producing it!
