Chronicle of the Week: Winemaker Henri Bonneau was the embodiment of the entire Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation!
Born in 1938 and deceased in 2016, he represented the twelfth generation of winegrowers established in the region since 1667.
A quiet, mischievous peasant, he cultivated six hectares of Grenache (85%), Mourvèdre, Counoise and Vaccarèse.
Unaffected by trends, influences, financial logic or even the canons of modern oenology, Henri Bonneau aged his uniquely individual wines for a very long time, from four to ten years.
As he often said, “The secret of my wines is that there are none!
