Weekend Tasting: La Janasse at its best
Located in Courthézon, in the north-east of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the southern Rhône Valley, the Domaine de la Janasse was created in 1973 by Aimé Sabon, after the family farm, which happened to be at a place called “La Janasse”.
From 1991, Christophe Sabon, Aimé’s son, took over the running of the estate, assisted since 2001 by his sister Isabelle. In just a few years, the estate has become one of the jewels in Châteauneuf’s crown.
From 15 hectares in the past, Domaine de la Janasse now occupies 90 hectares, a veritable mosaic of terroirs in over 60 parcels, with the guiding principle of “the right grapes in the right place”.
For several vintages now, the wines have gained in finesse without losing any of their concentration, with an excellent balance between maturity and freshness.
Join us at the Boutique this Friday and Saturday to discover the inimitable style of Domaine de la Janasse through two splendid examples:
DOMAINE DE LA JANASSE | Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2022
DOMAINE DE LA JANASSE | Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2019
“I studied Viti in Beaune and I usually say that Grenache is the Pinot Noir of the Rhône Valley.”
Christophe Sabon
