Domaine Denis Mortet lives and evolves with the passing of generations and the seasons.
Arnaud and Clémence, Denis’ children, accompanied by their mother Laurence, continue the tradition, adding their own touch of freshness and authenticity. The wines are in their image: elegant, natural and emotional.
Transmission and passion are the watchwords at Domaine Denis Mortet. Following the tragic death of Denis Mortet in 2006, it was only natural that his wife Laurence and son Arnaud should take over the running of the estate. The careful and meticulous viticulture already put in place by the latter enabled Arnaud to continue along this path with his mother, benefiting from soils and vines in full bloom offering concentrated, juicy grapes.
Far from resting on this magnificent family legacy, Arnaud has chosen to take the estate’s wines to even greater heights by paying particular attention to viticulture. He is convinced that wine is made first and foremost in the vineyard. By paying particular attention to the soil, through natural grassing and less frequent ploughing, he allows the vines to express themselves freely, producing smaller berries with greater concentration of juice and substance.
As a family, they cherish their vines and acquire new ones, notably on the Grands Crus parcels of Bonnes Mares and Mazis-Chambertin, bringing the estate to hundreds of different parcels, from Daix (on the Dijon plateau) to Vougeot.
Drawing on his experience in Australia and the United States, Arnaud ensures that tradition serves evolution. The vinification reflects this respect for grapes and juices. The whole grape harvest, used sparingly in several cuvées, reflects the meticulous work carried out in the vineyard and gives the domaine’s wines great digestibility in their youth, while preserving their astonishing ageing potential.
The arrival of Arnaud’s sister Clémence at the domaine in 2013 reunites the family around their shared passion: the love of wines that are sincere, elegant and proud of their terroir.
