More confidential than those of the Côte de Nuits, the red wines of the Côte de Beaune are majestic nuggets of intensity and longevity. Located in Volnay, Domaine Michel Lafarge delivers some of the finest expressions of Pinot Noir in the region.
A family estate created in the early 19th century, Frédéric Lafarge now heads the 12 hectares that are the fruit of all his attentions. Convinced of the importance of respecting plants in order to best express the identity of terroirs, Domaine Lafarge has been cultivating its entire vineyard biodynamically since the early 2000s. In the cellar, dedication and meticulousness continue in the pure tradition of Burgundian vinification. Hand de-stemming makes all the difference, giving the wine an extra soul. The indigenous yeasts that come into play during fermentation diffuse the characteristics of each terroir and contribute to the singularity of the wines. Here, evolution is at the service of tradition, which has been well preserved. These daily efforts give rise to intense, authentic wines with a rich, diversified aromatic palette. Time is the best ally for these wines, which reveal themselves at their best after a few years in the cellar. Patience is therefore required to appreciate these wines at their best.
